Power BI Dashboards

Dashboards are only worth the decision they change. I build executive Power BI dashboards — real-time KPIs, burndown rates, milestone progress — so leadership decides on data, not intuition.

The Workflow — How I Approach It

1

Define the decision

Start from what leadership must decide — not from what chart looks impressive.

2

Clean the data model

Validate and shape the data before a single visual — the model is the product.

3

Build the measures

KPIs, burndown, and milestone measures that answer the decision question.

4

Design for the audience

Executive view first — one screen that tells the story and surfaces the exception.

5

Deliver and iterate

Ship, collect feedback, refine — the dashboard earns its place by being used.

My Operating View — The 2 Cents

A dashboard nobody acts on is furniture. My 2 cents: start from the decision leadership must make, then build the visual that supports it. If a KPI has no owner and no action, it doesn’t belong on the page.

What Worked & What Didn’t

What Worked

  • Executive dashboards that accelerated real decisions.
  • Burndown and milestones visible to leadership in real time.

What Didn’t

  • Vanity metrics — green numbers everyone looked at, nobody acted on.
  • Charts without owners — insight with no one accountable.
