Business Transformation

Transformation lands when it’s measured in outcomes. I run transformation as a program — vision, plan, execution, adoption — so change delivers value instead of just announcing it.

The Workflow — How I Approach It

1

Define the target operating model

Clarify what the organization will look and perform like when the change is done.

2

Baseline the current state

Measure where we are before claiming where we’re going — the before is the case for change.

3

Sequence initiatives by value and dependency

Order the work so early wins fund and de-risk the rest.

4

Execute with governance

Run the transformation with the same discipline as any program — owners, gates, and cadence.

5

Track outcomes, not activities

Report what changed for the business — cost, cycle time, capacity — not how busy the team was.

6

Sustain through adoption

Embed the change so it survives the program — adoption is the last mile of every transformation.

My Operating View — The 2 Cents

Transformation programs die of activity. My 2 cents: every initiative must answer what it changes for the business and when — otherwise it’s theater. Measure the outcome, sequence for early wins, and embed the change before you celebrate it.

What Worked & What Didn’t

What Worked

  • Outcome-tracked programs — cost and cycle time moved, not just activity.
  • Sequencing for early wins — momentum carried the long initiatives.

What Didn’t

  • Activity theater — busy programs that changed nothing measurable.
  • Initiatives without an owner — launched loud, adopted never.
